Crush of the Week: Jeremy Lee Renner

“I believe that in my life, personally, about taking action and not just talking about it; doing something about it.”

Jeremy Lee Renner is our Crush of the Week because he is not just a fine-looking gentleman with acting chops, he pursues inspiring passions outside of his highly successful acting career. Though he has an impressive acting resume (The Town, The Hurt Locker, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, S.W.A.T., The Avengers , The Bourne Legacy), we were surprised to find that his first passion is music. His zeal for composition began while attending Fred C. Beyer High School in Modesto, Ca., where he joined the school’s band as a drummer. Shortly thereafter, he began to hone his skills as a singer-songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist.

At the early stages of his acting career, he performed in the band Sons of Ben. For the soundtrack of North Country, which he starred in, he performed “I Drink Alone”. In the 2006 films Love Comes to the Executioner and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Jeremy performed the songs “American Pie” and “Good Ole Rebel”. He also made cameos in music videos like “Trouble” by P!nk and “Scenes on Sunset” by Brother Sal.

Though his time for music are scacre these days, he supports many indie musicians such as Brother Sal, The Vashta Nerada and Aaron Durr.

The 41-year-old also devotes his time to other passions projects, including his long-running home renovation business and his involvement with the United Nations as a Goodwill Peace Ambassador.

Jeremy Renner is a man with the plan(s) and many talents who is living his dream while helping others pursue theirs. Crush of the Week indeed.

Mini Music Reviews: Elle Varner’s Perfectly Imperfect x Lianne La Havas’ Is Your Love Big Enough?

Elle Varner’s Perfectly Imperfect is a pretty solid album. While her sweet raspy voice showcases her R&B roots, she is not afraid to dabble in a bit of country.

Standout tracks (besides what you’ve already heard): “Not Tonight”, “Leaf”, “Oh What a Night”, “Stop the Clock” and “So Fly”.

Cop it here.

Lianne La Havas’ Is Your Love Big Enough is a really great album. A must listen. Her silky voice blended with folk and soul just flows effortlessly from track to track.

Standout tracks (besides what you’ve already heard): “Don’t Wake Me Up”, “Au Cinema”, “Forget”, “Tease” and “They Could Be Wrong”.

Cop it here.

Drinkify: A Website That Creates Cocktail Recipes Based on Musicians

Drinkify is a website that suggests “the perfect cocktail” based on the musicians you are currently listening to. All you have to do is enter a name into the “I’m Listening To” box then hit the “What Should I Drink?” button, and the site spits out a recipe in seconds to accompany your favorite music.

I was listening to M.I.A.’s Vicki Leekx when I first discovered Drinkify so I entered her name and here is the result:

Then I tried others:

Cool way to try new drinks from time to time.

Shawnna Talks Women in Hip-Hop: ‘Shouts out to any woman that persevered through this shit that I know in the game’

Shawnna stopped by Invasion Radio to give the scoop on where the heck she has been for the past 2 years and her upcoming mixtape, “She’s Alive” set for release on May 24th.  The the former first lady of  Ludacris’ Disturbing tha Peace Records, revealed her admiration for upcoming and established emcees such as, Iggy Azalea, Azealia Banks, Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj.

No matter how tough this woman is, bring up her dad, Buddy Guy, a 7-time Grammy award-winning  blues guitarist and singer, and watch her transform into daddy’s little girl in a millisecond. It is really cute to watch.

Stereomood: Create Playlists that Matches Your Mood

Yes, we all love our CDs and MP3 players, but even if you’ve created playlists within your library, you still find yourself skipping-skipping-skipping to find the right track that matches your vibe of the moment.

The founders of Stereomood hopes to eliminate one fumbling with their knick-knacks by creating free internet radio that handpicks songs that suits our mood or daily activities.

I am in a party mood so I clicked on “Let’s Party” and an array of funky new music that I’ve never heard of began to play crisp and clear. So if you want to listen to reggae, click on “Lost In Jamaica,” mon. If you are feeling lovey-dovey, click on “Make Love,” horn dog. If you feel a bit melancholy, click on “Sad,” (no crying now). The list goes on and on.

Stereomood is a fun, hassle free method to find new music.
